Where to stay
There are three camps, catering mostly to pre-arranged fly-in visitors, and one campsite all clustered around the Xakanaxa Lagoon, a huge open lagoon which is fed by the Moanachira River. This can be traced upstream, passing close to Camp Okavango, Shinde and Xugana – allowing these isolated water-based camps to be used as 'satellites' for sojourns of a few days into the Delta, linked by a boat journey of a few hours. Note that because of the particularly high game densities here, and the relaxed, fearless nature of the animals, even walking around within camp can be an experience at times. Lion, hyena, leopard, buffalo, wild dogs and elephants all wander though the camps and campsites very frequently – so be careful when you are walking around your camp or campsite here, especially after dark.
