If sailing appeals, Dive 'n' Sail operates a lovely 50ft Admiral catamaran, Julia, specialising in live-aboard dive trips to Pemba and Mafia. Available for charter with its own professional skipper, chef, deckhand and optional dive instructor, the boat is fully equipped for diving and deep-sea fishing. On board are 4 ensuite, dbl cabins, a large galley and saloon area complete with stereo and DVD player, an outside deck and sunbathing trampoline over the waves. Complete with a Bauer 'Mariner' dive compressor for refilling tanks, it has 8 full sets of dive equipt, inc 16 aluminium cylinders, BCDs, regulators, depth gauges, weight-belts and weights. Certified divers need carry little of their own equipt. With some notice, PADI Advanced Open Water and speciality courses can be taught on board. Dinner usually comprises the daily catch so fishing is a frequent activity. Day or overnight trips to the reefs around Mnemba are possible, although the boat is more likely to be used by serious divers for week long ventures. Private boat charter (1–5 guests) US$1,320/day for min 4 days, exc dives; dives US$42/dive for first 10 dives, then US$36. Mnemba Island snorkelling day trip US$108pp (min 4 guests); dive suppt US$66. Half-day fishing US$480 (07.00–12.00 or 13.00–17.00). All rates are subject to periodic change!
